A currency union in the 1800s


Sweden, Norway and Denmark all use crowns. The name is a residue of the Scandinavian monetary union, which began in 1873 and lasted almost forty years. A kilogramme of gold cost 2,480 Scandinavian crowns, and the value of a single crown was the same in all countries.
